Signs of the End Times

The Christian is asked to follow in the footsteps of Christ, who endured great tribulation. All tribulation then must stand in the light of Christ Jesus who was ‘despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Smitten by God, and afflicted’ (Isaiah 53). However, this important aspect of Christian doctrine is sorely missing in our churches today. The absence of this theology of suffering is to the detriment of the believer living in the end times. Without it they are left unarmed and powerless to stand in the face of tribulation. For many, all suffering must be avoided at all costs and prayed away. Many churches today are responsible for creating a sugar coated gospel. But this version of the gospel bears little relation to what the Bible, Jesus and the early church taught. Have you ever been concerned about your reputation? Do you ever get preoccupied with what people have said about you?  Jesus, being God, had the most perfect character among men. Yet when he was wrongfully accused he did not retaliate. He did not try to vindicate himself. Imagine that! If we had been in Jesus shoes wouldn't we have wanted to prove to our nay-sayers that we were innocent?! But never once did Jesus feel the need to do that! Never once did he feel threatened! Ev en when false testimony was made against him, he remained silently peaceful! Wouldn't that have been the perfect opportunity for him to proclaim who he was, and tell those accusers that actually, they were the ones in the wrong, they were the ones in error!? No, rather Jesus humbled himself, he became like a servant, he rendered himself of absolutely no reputation at all! He who was everything basically became nothing for us! So here we are - the second of my 'signs of the end times' blogs. So far I'm on my intended target! Today though, before I get started onto the signs I want to bring an all important perspective to this subject. Before we begin I feel the need to establish from the very beginning a vital foundational truth.  You see no matter what the subject we can all to often become distracted from the central point.
